    This particular graveyard was interesting, more so then the average place of eternal rest.  It was an old graveyard, some of the mausoleums were expansive as the eighteenth century aristocrats attempted to outdo each other in the afterlife so as to ensure they were remembered. The angel statues that once protected the burial sites were devoured by the vines, they could no longer be the guardians of safe passage. It was oft reported of people seeing fantastic lights and shadowy figures. Once there was even a paranormal investigation on TV about it. Suffice to say it didn’t end well when one of the camera men was found dead in a tree. Past the rusted gates lay another world.
    People walking past frequently reported a scowling decayed figure glaring across the fence with long gnarled fingers digging into the brick. Those brave enough to enter spoke of an elderly woman with a basket full of apples dashing from grave to grave, the ones who got out that is; it was unfortunate to have a river so close to the yard, the drownings became almost innumerable.
    There was also a dog, a small sweet dog of black and tan fur. He had even been caught and put in the pound, they inspected him and the dog was in perfect health with a collar proudly naming him Doug. No other details had been found. Doug had been caught on multiple occasions but always escaped without breaking a single lock or scratching a single door. The pooch returned to the cemetery every time. The select few who saw him there noted seeing him with a strange figure. It was said the only certain thing about this figure was a pork pie hat. It seemed that the pair always walked through the yard and faded into the ever present fog.
    And the piercing eyes that watched over it all. The piercing green eyes with a stone gaze ready to out stare a tree. Always watching. Always remembering.
